Mongol Rally Team Reaches the Finish Line and Raises £2,549 for Charities

After thousands of miles, countless border crossings and one major setback, the team taking on the Mongol Rally in support of Changing Lives has reached the finish line in Kazakhstan.

After an extraordinary journey spanning thousands of miles and multiple countries, the team taking on the Mongol Rally in support of Changing Lives has successfully reached the finish line in Oskemen, Kazakhstan.

The challenge saw the team travel from London through Europe and Central Asia in a Fiat Panda, navigating everything from mountain passes and desert roads to long stretches of remote terrain. Their journey took them across Romania, Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, covering more than 7,500 miles along the way.

However, with the finish line almost within reach, disaster struck.

While crossing a remote section of the Pamir Mountains in Kyrgyzstan, their car suffered a major breakdown, leaving the team stranded with one country and many miles still separating them from the finish line.

What could have marked the end of their rally instead became a powerful example of the generosity and community spirit that the challenge is known for. Supported by local people, mechanics and fellow rally participants, the team spent hours being towed and assisted across the region before eventually making it into Kazakhstan, where they were able to donate their vehicle through the rally organisers.

Just when it seemed the journey might end there, another rally team, unable to complete the challenge themselves, offered their vehicle to help them continue.

With just days remaining until the finish line celebrations, the team set off once again, making the long drive to Oskemen and even helping another rally team by towing them for part of the journey. Against the odds, they arrived in time to complete the challenge.

While the rally tested both the team and their vehicle, one thing stood out above all else: the kindness they encountered throughout their journey. From local communities and mechanics to fellow participants, support was never far away when it was needed most.

Most importantly, their efforts have raised an incredible £2,549, which will be shared between Changing Lives and MapAction.

Everyone at Changing Lives would like to say a huge thank you to the team for taking on this challenge, representing the charity so brilliantly, and raising vital funds to support people facing some of the most difficult circumstances in our communities.
