Join us for an exhibition marking International Women's Day 2024 in the York St John University Arts Foyer, open from 8 - 14 March.
HerSay brings together an eclectic mix of visual art, spoken word and singing pieces made by women and girls on the York St John Prison Partnership Project and, its community initiative On the Out, alongside School of the Arts staff, students and volunteers.
Creating work that responds to ‘Women’s Voices’, HerSay explores perspectives and perceptions of women in recovery, at risk, and in and around the criminal justice system, beyond media, myth and social stigma.
This work has been created through the York St John Prison Partnership Programme sustained weekly in prison and in the community trauma informed, relational arts practice, which utilises the arts as a tool for individual growth and societal change and is supported by partners: HMP New Hall and HMP Askham Grange, Changing Lives, York in Recovery, St Giles Trust, Humankind and the Institute of Social Justice.
